Sharing With Your Dog is Ok – Sometimes
When the holidays roll around many people are tempted to share their special meals with their dogs. If you usually only feed your dog commercial dog food this may not be such a good idea as the sudden change can cause stomach upset and diarrhea. If you do feed your dog healthy food sometimes, or homemade dog food, it’s OK. A little turkey sans skin (no bones EVER), a little bit of sweet potatoes, or some green beans is ok to share – keeping in mind all things in moderation.
Ingredients To Avoid
Keep in mind that, in general, dog food should contain 1/3 protein (from meat, eggs or dairy products), and 2/3 vegetables and grains. There are some ingredients which are toxic to dogs that you may not even think of such as:
Chocolate
Artificial sweeteners
Garlic
Onions
Grapes and Raisins
Mushrooms
Macadamia and Walnuts
Moldy Foods
Mustard Seeds
Caffeine-containing foods such as coffee and tea
Alcohol
